What is Audible x Multitrack Off Mic?

It’s a series of free workshops, running from January - March 2024, offering training to people who are interested in off mic (i.e. non-presenter) roles within the audio industry. Applications for these early 2024 workshops are now closed and the workshops are kicking off at the moment.

Will there be more Off Mic workshops in the future?

We’re not sure yet, but keep an eye on this site for more information. You can also follow us on Twitter and Instagram, and sign up to our newsletter.

Are these workshops free?

Yes, these workshops are completely free!

Who can apply for these workshops?

These workshops are open to anyone, but we’re especially encouraging applications from individuals across the UK that face barriers on entering the industry because they are:

  • Black, Asian or ethnically diverse applicants

  • LGBTQIA+

  • Those from lower socio-economic backgrounds

  • People with disabilities.

Entrants must be 18 or over and resident in the UK.

We’re looking for applications from people who want a pathway into the audio industry, and are hoping to develop their skills in production roles. This is not a programme for those wanting to be presenters or on mic talent.

How many places are there?

For the Jan - March 2024 workshops, there were approximately 150 places in total.

Are these workshops online or in person?

The workshops in early 2024 are a mix, with most taking place at Audible's offices in East London and some taking place online.

Will there be food and drink at the in person workshops?

Yes! Audible has a kitchen with refreshments and snacks, and workshop participants will be able to access that throughout the day.

How many workshops can I attend?

Each successful applicant gets a place on one workshop. When you fill in the application form, you’ll be able to let us know your top two choices. We’ll do our best to give you a place on the workshop you’re most interested in.

Can Audible and Multitrack help me with travel costs to attend an in-person workshop?

We will be able to offer some support for travel costs, for those travelling from outside London to attend in-person workshops. There’s a question on the application form where you can let us know if you might need financial support to attend.

Why are Audible and Multitrack running these workshops?

Audible takes its responsibilities as part of the UK’s audio industry very seriously. We know that greater representation in our output is important to our current and future audiences, and that we can help to shape the wider culture of the UK through the content we produce. Therefore, we want to ensure that our output reflects all the communities of the UK accurately and authentically, with an emphasis on reflecting under-represented communities, cultures and socio-economic backgrounds.

Multitrack creates opportunities for people who are underrepresented in the audio industry. We think people from all backgrounds should have an equal chance to build a career in radio and podcast production in the UK. We don’t just want to open doors. The audio industry must embrace change from the top down, to create environments where people from all backgrounds can love their work, be heard and build the careers they want.

If you face any barriers in applying for these workshops, please get in touch with us. We want to make applications as accessible as possible for everyone.
