Looking to kickstart your career in radio and podcast production?

The Multitrack Fellowship opens doors into the audio industry

We are now accepting applications for the 2024 Fellowship!

We partner with the country’s leading audio production companies to offer paid work placements, training and networking opportunities, and the chance to pitch for real commissions.

This is an entry level fellowship for people who may face barriers entering the audio industry based on:

  • Socioeconomic background

  • Race or ethnicity

  • Disability

Applications close: 11.59pm, Sunday 2nd June

Fellowship runs: September to December 2024

Bigger and better!

This year’s Fellowship is the longest ever - we’ve extended the programme from 8 weeks to 12 weeks.

This means Fellows will get four more weeks of employment, four extra training days, four more weeks of networking opportunities, and the chance to get more embedded than ever at the production companies they work at.

More roles than ever!

For the first time, the 2024 Fellowship will offer some specialist placements; focusing on editorial production, technical production and production management. This means people with a wider range of skillsets can apply to Multitrack this year and get their start in the audio industry - in roles where there is high demand from employers.

See the FAQs for more information on specialist placements.

Who is eligible to apply?

To be a Multitrack Fellow, you must meet one or more of the criteria around socioeconomic background, race or ethnicity, and disability. And you must be an entry level producer.

You must also be at least 18 years old and eligible to work in the UK - unfortunately we are not able to offer visa sponsorship.

  • The Fellowship is open to people who are from a low socioeconomic background.

    Here’s how we define that:

    • If you qualified for free school meals.

    • If, when you were age 14, your highest earning parent or guardian was not self-employed or in senior management, and was employed in one of the following categories:

      • Technical and craft occupations such as: motor mechanic, fitter, inspector, plumber, printer, tool maker, electrician, gardener, train driver

      • Semi-routine manual and service occupations such as: postal worker, machine operative, security guard, caretaker, farm worker, catering assistant, receptionist, sales assistant

      • Routine manual and service occupations such as: HGV driver, van driver, cleaner, porter, packer, sewing machinist, messenger, labourer, waiter/waitress, bar staff

    • If, when you were age 14, your parent or guardian was long term unemployed

Note: these are broad categories that may not exactly fit your family situation – e.g. if you’re a carer or if a family divorce changed your financial position. Please use your judgment when self-identifying.

  • The Fellowship is open to people who are:

    • Asian/British Asian

    • Black/African/Caribbean/Black British

    • Mixed/Multiple ethnic groups

    • From another minority ethnic group

  • The Fellowship is open to people who are disabled, neurodivergent or have a long term health condition (defined as a condition lasting or expected to last 12 months or more).

You can self-identify this and you won’t need to show a diagnosis

  • Broadly, we define entry level producers as having no, or mostly voluntary experience in the audio industry- for example volunteering for a college or community radio station, creating your own recordings or podcast just for fun, or having done a couple of days shadowing or work experience.

We consider all applications on merit, but tend to favour applicants without extensive paid experience working in the media industries, such as journalism, film or tv.

That means that if you're already earning a significant proportion of your income from working in audio, or you’ve previously worked in audio and are looking to return after a career break, this scheme probably isn't for you.

One of our aims for the future is to develop a scheme to support industry returners and those with experience wishing to grow their careers. So if that describes you, please keep following our socials for updates - we know it can be tough and we hope to build something for you soon.

Ready to start your application?

Throw your hat in the ring for the 2024 Multitrack Fellowship!

We’ve tried to make sure the application form isn’t too time consuming. We don’t require you to submit a CV or cover letter - we just want to get to know you a bit.

The main application questions come first on the form, and we’ve written some guidance for how to approach each answer. We really recommend checking that out before preparing your answers.

Not keen on written applications?

This year, we’re trialling an alternative way to submit your answers to the key questions on the application, to try and make the process as accessible as possible. If writing answers feels like a barrier to you doing the best application possible, you can give your answers to the main questions using voice memo recordings, instead of writing them.

We’ll still need you to fill out a form, but when you answer the main questions at the top, you’ll be asked to upload audio recordings instead of filling in text boxes. These recordings DO NOT need to be high production value! We won’t be judging your audio skills based on these answers. This is just an alternative way of providing your answers, if you find it easier to speak them aloud than writing them down.
